Who We Serve
Our mission is to
raise-up orphaned, abandoned and extremely poor children around the world,
starting in Peru.
Purpose
– The situation of children in Peru
Peru
is a country with one of the greatest population densities in Latin America.
There has been an increase in the number of abandoned boys and girls, as
well as a great increase in the number of children who live in extreme
poverty.
The children that we are working to reach are
ones that have been forced to live and work on the street; children who live
day-by day by working, begging and stealing to get what they need to
survive. These children are the most vulnerable in society, and because of
this situation they really have no hope of making a better future for
themselves.

In order to support themselves, children do
anything they can, whether that is selling candy or cigarettes, washing
windows, begging, prostitution… Many join gangs of other street children for
protection and some sense of family.
This situation results in a multiplication of
misery; more and more children are becoming adults who have no education, no
meaningful work skills, and no knowledge of the love of Christ; also they
grow up with not the slightest concept of what a loving family should be.
Rather, they grow up malnourished, abused, drug-addicted and unable to
contribute anything good to society.

Program
– What we plan to do
There are many examples of children’s group
homes in the United States that reflect the concept of small family units
rather than dormitory-style orphanages, and it is this “group home” concept
that we wish to plant in Peru.
Corban desires a strong spiritual component as
its foundation, along with positive and supportive training in areas such as
education, life skills and vocational direction, all leading toward
successful independence.
a)
Health

The children in our care will be referred to
us by government authorities. When a child is taken in they will receive
care from licensed medical personnel who are required by Peru to be
on-staff.
Careful attention will also be made to ensure
that meals are well planned, complete and nutritious.
b)
Shelter
Our homes will be designed to maximize the
concept of the family; there will be no more than eight children in each
home, with a set of married house parents.
The homes will be in a campus-like setting,
and as funding develops we will add necessary support facilities, such as a
school, offices, and mission team housing.
Out of concern for the well-being of the
children the campus will be located outside of the capitol city of Lima.
c)
Education
Great attention will be paid to the quality of
education the children receive. One of the benefits of working in Peru is
that the cost of education is very low. We eventually plan to build our own
school on-campus.
d)
Parenting
All staff and house parents will go through a
rigorous background and screening process to help ensure that only reputable
people are in contact with the children.
Because they are the primary role models for
the children, House Parents will be married couples who will go through a
continual process of evaluation, education and training to ensure that
children are raised to become healthy and productive adults.
e)
Spiritual well-being
Corban is a word found in the Bible which
means “something set apart and dedicated to God”; it’s in that spirit of
sacrifice and dedication that we are working to raise children up as
dedicated to God, children who would otherwise be lost.
Church attendance will be combined strong
youth group programs and parental training so that each child will be
brought up in the way of the Lord.
f)
Future
Corban will implement a comprehensive program
aimed at enabling every child to become independent and successful adults.
Living skills training and counseling will begin before the children are
independent, and continue into adulthood through training, counseling, and
half-way house programs to ensure that we have interrupted the cycle of
broken families and poverty.
